Candid photography?

As some of you may know, I'm off to Toronto next month for World Horror, and it's about time I purchased myself a new camera - my trusty Olympus (purchased, as it happened, for my journey to Chicago for World Horror 2002) is sadly showing it's age, and the lack of optical zoom is now very annoying.

So, after a spot of shufty on the ol' interwebnet, I've come across the Fuji Finepix S5600 which at £130 is cheaper than what I paid for my Olympus. Technology, eh?

It does look rather spiffing, and the write-ups on line are very complimentary, but is there anyone out there with a inkling of photographic knowledge reckon it's a decent camera?

Ta muchly.

Hi Chris, this is a pretty decent camera and one I've been tempted to buy myself actually! Although really must resist the urge to splash out any more money for a while ;-)

The optical zoom on this is good and for the price you can't go wrong. Only downside is the fact I think it only uses XD cards which are fine but usually cost a bit more than other formats and you may need to buy a reader that supports it if you don't already have one (or if you prefer to plug the camera directly into the PC to download).

Anyway, it's a sound choice.

Aye; I was initially going to buy a Panasonic F27 (12x zoom, slightly more mega-pixelage) but it's out of stock more or less everywhere, but then it's also a bit more expensive...

The Fuji does seem to have better write-ups.

Argh! I hate you and your Toronto-traveling self. I wish I could go to WHC :-P

Now, you see, I'd like to go to Toronot - both for the place and for the con!

Mark, Toronot? Sounds like something out of a big-fantasy novel...

Elizabeth, I'll send you a postcard... ;-)

For the both of you, next year the Con is set for Salt Lake City: I didn't realise the Mormons were into horror...

Hmmm...Salt Lake City? I actually have a good friend that just moved near there. Perhaps I can use that as an excuse to go.
