Stranger on the Sofa

Received Barry Adamson's latest album this morning, and it's fantastic, funky, jazzy and cool as fuck.

Adamson produces, dare I say it, "concept albums". His debut, Moss Side Story is essentially a tale of growing up in that notorious district of Manchester; As Above So Below is a soulful meditation on death. It was this that got me hooked on his music, after reading an interview with him in Bizarre magazine (when it actually wrote articles on bizarre stuff rather than being a wannabe lad's mag.)

The only album he's released that is purely just "songs" is I'd say Oedipus Schmoedipus and you probably won't find any of his stuff in the charts, which is no bad thing if you ask me. I can't remember the last time I actually checked the charts...

After The King of Nothing Hill he parted company with Mute, and it was just a chance encounter upon his website that I discovered the new album, which is self-released. I'm glad I did.

A superb mix of funk, soul, electronica; a soundtrack to an imaginary film, which many of his albums have been: Moss Side Story actually contains a director credit. :)

Wholly recommended, and well worth checking out.
