The man, the myth, the monster?
I've not read an awful lot of his stories, but those tales I have read have been very good, but Ellison is an author who I have read or heard about; tales of litigation and dubious times at conventions.
An elder statesman of SF who tends to do what he likes purely because he is Harlan Ellison, and if you question him then he sues you.

I've read quite a bit of Ellison and really like him ("Shatterday" is a masterful collection), but I've heard that he can be "difficult" in person and at one con or another last year, he groped the presenter on stage.
Harlan is a jackass, no question, but usually he's an entertaining jackass. I like watching the grouch, but I must admit time is starting to warp his reality a bit, and he's not the sharp knife he once seemed to be.
But, as a writer, he's unparalleled. He comes by his swelled head honestly.
BTW, Chris, I'm told you'll be joining us on Wednesday night. Dinner's on you!
Dinner's on me? Hmm, so that's how many Big Mac's. :-)
I'll have to read more Ellison.
Chris, read "The Whimper of Whipped Dogs" by Ellison. It's one of the greatest horror stories ever written.
